Arrival in Chisinau is scheduled for approximately 6:00 pm.
The autonomous province of Gagauzia (Gagauz Yeri in the Gagauz/Turkish language) was born in 1995 by popular will after a referendum and is recognized by the Moldovan government of Chisinau unlike Transnistria which instead proclaimed itself independent in 1992.
Of its 170,000 inhabitants, approximately 82% are ethnic Gagauz, a people of Turkmen origin who have never professed the Islamic religion, having always been Orthodox Christians and who settled in the region between 1770 and 1812.
The remaining population is made up of Russians, Bulgarians, Moldovans and Gypsies-Roma.
The capital is Comrat, a small town of just over 30,000 inhabitants, seat of the autonomous government and the state university which is sponsored by the University of Istanbul.
